Codorniu is the most visited bodega in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia

Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, 35 minutes drive south of Barcelona is the cradle and the capital of Cava,  In Sant Sadurní d’Anoia everywhere you look there are Cavas (wineries for sparkling wines made with the traditional method, the same method used as to produce Champagne although the region is not allowed to call it Champagne as it is only for the Champagne region in France. The largest Cava producers are Freixenet and Codorniu. The village does not have as much life as Vilafranca but there are some shops, great bakeries, bars, restaurants and of course many places where you can enjoy a great glass of Cava!

In Sant Sadurní d’Anoia we find three of the best restaurant’s in Penedès: Cal Blay Vinticinc which is located in a beautiful building which is an old bodega. The restaurant serves great set menus for good prices and has a very large wine menu where you can try most of the wines from the region. On the other side of the town we find La Cava d'en Sergi, where the chef Sergi Torres offers great creative food for affordable prices.  And set on on the hills surrounding the village we find Mirador de Les Caves which has an incredible view over most of Penedès and the Montserrat Mountain. Another highlight is the chocolate factory Simon Coll where you can savour great chocolate and even enjoy a visit to learn the history of chocolate and see the production of this wonderful product.

The center of the village is small but with many small bars, cafés, Cavas and shops.  Every Saturday a market where local farmers and artisans fill the town’s central streets with their market stands.

At the end of a long day, there are a range of Hotels, farm houses, apartments and hostels to choose from. One of them is the Hotel Sol i Vi which is surrounded by vineyards.
