Codorníu is the oldest Cava in Penedès and one of the most visited in the area. The Celler is located in a beautiful modernist building, designed by the renowned Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch. This family business goes all the way back to the 1551 when it was founded and is the oldest company in the whole Spain. In 1659 Anna Codorníu married Miquel Raventos and by that uniting two of the biggest wine making families of the time.
In 1872, Josep Raventós produced Cava for the first time in Spain using the "Champenoise Method" which is today called "Traditional Method".
The winery is open 7 days a week and it's mandatory to reserve in advance in order to do the guided visit.
